This week we have looked at compasses and how to label them. We looked at little Rhymes to remember the points: Never Eat Shredded Wheat, Never Eat Soggy Worms, Naughty Elephants Squirt Water.
we even learnt the tricky points in-between too. The children took to it really quickly. After we went outside to look at the compass on the playground and do some movement in the directions of the points. To finish we drew our own compasses on the ground with chalk. Well done Team AC.

Today is a celebration day for the King's Coronation happening on the 6.5.23. As the children have never known a coronation in their lifetimes or even their grown ups lifetime, they got chance to see what a coronation is at a whole school assembly this morning. We have done lots of lovely things to celebrate including taking part in a class photo to spell out KC III, making sandwiches, having a picnic on the field this afternoon with our sandwiches, crisps and buns. Coronation crafts, learning to play the national anthem on the xylophones and playing games. It has been a jam packed day!!! Everyone looked amazing in their red, white and blue clothes and fantastic homemade crowns...wow!!! What a wonderful day it has been, we hope you enjoy your long weekend whatever you may be doing. Some fabulous work has been produced by Team AC. Some of the most amazing handwriting has been displayed on our board for everyone to see. This showcases the best handwriting in class. Our four pieces of work belong to: Alexander, Thomas, Kacper and Charlie. You should be very proud of yourselves! Keep up the good work Team AC. Over the past 2 weeks we have been learning:
Literacy - Haiku poetry and learning what syllables are. Learning about Roald Dahl. Introduction into James and the giant peach. Making predictions of what may happen in the book based on the front cover. Maths - Time, looking into o'clock, quarter past, half past, quarter to. understanding the vocabulary and using a clock to make times. Getting more complex, moving around a clock in 5 minutes, focusing on past and to vocabulary. Geography - Rainforests and how they are made: forest floor, understory, canopy, emergent. what animals and life survive in each part. I.C.T - creating media using pictures to communicate. Spanish - Introduction into myself, learning how to say "I feel".... and their feeling. Leaning to say formal and casual greetings and how to introduce themselves and ask how someone else their name. Music - exploring music in more detail, Listening and appraising more songs by Bob Marley. Playing xylophones to 'Three little birds' by Bob Marley. P.E - continuing with cheerleading routines. Carnival - A Brazilian themed carnival in class/school with music, dancing, food tasting and much more. (See Below) Coronation celebrations - Celebrating and learning about the Kings coronation on Saturday 6th of May. More to come on this later. AC - My favourite lesson is phonics I like the reading and timed writing.
I like Art because I'm very crafty and even like to do it at home. I don't really like handwriting because it is a bit repetitive. When I'm at school I like doing jobs for the teacher it makes me feel responsible and grown up. ML/y - I like to go outside for break times. My favourite lesson is phonics and learning new words. I like P.E and playing games like football and hockey. I like to play music on the xylophones. I like Mrs Jones and Mrs Greenhalgh the best because they help me. I love to read with Mrs Greenhalgh on the sofa outside class with a blanket. Team AC have been working so hard in lots of lessons to combine all their efforts and have a Carnival. Our fabulous children have worked hard in Geography learning all about South America and brazil and the differences between our country and theirs, we have looked into lots of things but the Rio Carnival was something that was very different to things that we do in the UK. We had a look at the differences between what we eat and what they eat, so we wanted to bring a bit of that into our carnival too.
In Design and technology we have researched, designed and then made rain sticks which is something that is made in South America usually out of cactus plants. We found it so interesting how they pull out the spikes and then turn them inwards to help make the beautiful sound, we re-created this by using some coiled foil inside our rain sticks. A lot of time and effort went into making them. In art team AC spent time with Lilian and designed and made their own tie dye T-shirts that look spectacular and really brightened up our carnival. They also designed and made their own masks. In Music and P.E we learnt some of the instruments and music that they dance to in Brazil and we learnt moves to a samba dance. Put that all together and we had an amazing carnival yesterday afternoon, we tried Brazilian chocolate truffles and cheesy bread, they went down a treat!! We sang and danced played instruments and played the rain sticks that we made. We wore t-shirts and masks and did a parade around the playground and school to show everyone at Park Street all of our hard work. The children all had huge smiles and had the best afternoon. Team AC have been looking at poetry and the different types there are. We have written some poetry in two different styles so far; cinquain poems and haiku poems. They are both very different and tricky in their own way haikus especially as this involves syllables but team AC always try their very best and have produced some amazing poetry as shown below with some videos of AC reading aloud some of the poems they have written.
