In art this week children have drawn inspiration from our History topic, The great fire of London and have produced some fantastically, detailed panting's of how they envision the what the fire actually looked like.

In this session, the class began a new unit of writing based on our text driver Snow White in New York, written by Fiona French. This was shared with the class as part of an exciting hook. After reading the story and providing children with opportunities to develop their oracy skills we played a game to select a place Snow white could visit on her Honeymoon. After sharing the text, the text, audience and purpose for writing was established. Children were clear that the focus for this unit of writing would be to Re- read their work to check it makes sense and make changes to improve their work, edit own writing and check for the use of the punctuation taught: capital letters, full stops. During this lesson, the focus of learning was centred around understanding the Text, Audience and Purpose of writing and expanding our knowledge of when to use a capital letter.
This week in maths Team CH have been representing addition and subtraction stories with a variety of resources. We started by using a clear visual structure of the first, then and now frame and talked through each step of the story before writing the equation to represent the story. Once confident with this we removed the pictures and asked children to draw the picture to represent the number story alongside writing the equation. After this we moved onto ten frames and used counters to represent the number story, this included us writing the equation and finally we looked at representing a number story on a number line.
This week in science we have been investigating the features of groups of animals. We have looked to identifying some features of birds, reptiles, amphibians, mammals and fish by creating a collage of features. We spent time practicing talking about the features and sharing with our peers.
This week team CH have been working with all of the numbers one to ten, but we have been highlighting certan points where the numbers six to nine 'sit' in this group. We first began by ordering a set of number cards 1-10 and provided children with more opportunities to count forwards and backwards. After this, we worked towards children becoming confidant with knowing 'one more and one less' for these numbers and then reasoned about the position of these numbers. Finally, we plotted these numbers on a blank number line.
This week in team CH we have built on our previous two lessons and practiced counting from one to ten in Spanish.
Uno = 1 Dos = 2 Tres = 3 Cuatro = 4 Cinco = 5 Seis = 6 Siete = 7 Ocho = 8 Nueve = 9 Diez = 10 This week Team CH have been exploring how faith can contribute to community cohesion. We started by recognising that Jews believe God has given us them some rules to follow.
We introduced children to the story of Moses and the 10 Commandments is from Exodus 20: 1 - 17. According to the Bible, Moses led the Jewish people out of slavery in Egypt towards the Promised Land. When they had arrived at Mount Sinai God spoke to Moses and Moses received the torah - usually translated as law. The best-known of these commandments are the Ten Commandments - but there are actually 613 of them, covering all aspects of life. Children were given opportunities to talk about the importance of rules and to think about how their actions can impact on others. Actions have consequences. We showed this by playing a game that involved four children holding up signs. The first one says 'I shouted out an answer in class'; the second 'I kicked my friend in the back'; the third 'I talked to my friend instead of listening to the teacher'; the fourth 'I didn’t do my work'. We provided children with the opportunity to discuss how the first person didn’t follow the rules and made the wrong choice - which resulted in their friend getting angry and kicking them - which is also not following the rules. Both were unhappy. Another child was talking when they should have been listening. Finally we finished by revisiting the ten commandments and sharing important rules that we have in and out of school. This week in PE Team CH have been creating a simple dance phrase to portray the narrative of summer. We explored movement and responded to a range of imaginative stimuli. We especially enjoyed visiting the zoo where we moved like animals.
This week Team CH have been learning about some of the different jobs that people had in 1666. We had opportunity to talk about each job and time to think about if it is or was a job we would like to have. Jobs in the 17th century. Chimney sweeps Blacksmith Rat catcher Gong farmer A musician A cook Some of our children were a little upset to learn that they couldn’t be fire fighters as there was no organised fire brigade in 1666! This week team CH have been writing their alternative introductions to the story 'where the wild things are'.
