The Rainbows were very surprised today when we went outside into our EYFS area! We found a very large and very kind donation from a parent. The children were very excited to explore the HUGE tractor tyre and used it for balancing, jumping, follow the leader, a seating area and made up their own games in and on it!
The children thought of lots of ideas that we could use the tractor tyre for and wrote them down for the adults to consider. Here are some of their ideas! Our learning this week has been based on the book "Superworm" by Julia Donaldson. In Literacy we have been learning to read and match minibeast names to the correct picture and have been generating sentences to describe minibeasts and we wrote them together as a class.
During provision we have developed our motor skills by wrapping tissue paper around a straw, scrunching it off the end and used a pipette to carefully drop water on it and watch it wiggle! We have made our own worms by wrapping and tying wool around card cut outs, observed what is happening in our wormery and made spiders webs by threading string through holes in paper plates, amongst many other activities! On Welly Walk we continued to develop our team work skills but found it very tricky this week, especially as it began to rain quite hard when we were in the nature area! There was lots of good team work from some children who were good at listening, worked on their feedback from last week, and they were more confident tying the sheets to the trees. We decided that some children need to stop and regroup if they could not decide what they wanted to do, they need to listen to each others ideas and decide which they would like to try. We will continue next week and hopefully the weather will be much better! During outdoor play the children initiated making shops in the outdoor area using the construction equipment. Some children created menus and signs to make a tea and coffee shop and a McDonalds! There have been a few different sports activities the children have created including scoring points by throwing a ball through a hoop at different heights and from further and further away, throwing quoits onto cones and creating a hoop obstacle course to run, jump and bounce across! Here are some photos of our fantastic learning this week! We have worked incredibly hard the past few days to learn our brand new poem "Five Little Peas." We hope you are proud of our achievement! The children often ask throughout the day if we can perform some of our poems that we have learnt so far this year and always take great delight in this! We have loved our topic based on the book "Superworm" this week! We were inspired to create our own wormery!
Some of The Rainbows collected some soil, leaves and worms to create it. We added a layer of soil, then sand and repeated this over and over until the wormery was full. The layers of coloured sand will enable us to see when the worms move between each layer. We added the worms and watched them slither down into the soil. The soil has to be kept damp to keep the worms happy and healthy so we will check this each day. The leaves were added last for the worms to eat and we will check each morning to see if they have moved down into the soil. We have to keep the wormery covered as worms prefer the dark and do not like sunlight. We are all excited to observe the worms and talk about any changes! Can you spot any worms in the photos below? This week The Rainbows have been looking after their wellbeing, as well as developing their gross motor skills.
We have been taking time from our busy day to rest our minds and bodies and have some quiet time to slow ourselves down and calm ourselves. Each day The Rainbows enjoy entering the classroom after dinner playtime and sit quietly listening to relaxing music to help calm down after playing with their friends and get ready for learning. This week we have taken part in some Yoga activities to support our wellbeing and have some quiet and relaxing time to focus ourselves. We also enjoyed doing some Cosmic Yoga "Super Yoga". Here are some of our yoga poses! Each week we will post a bedtime story from the website "Sooper Books" for you to enjoy at home. This week the story is called "The Golden Goose" and is about being kind.
You can choose to either read the story yourself or to listen to it instead. Click the picture to follow the link to their website. We hope you enjoy it! This week we have had ever so much fun learning about King Charles III and his Coronation this weekend. We have learnt about the Royal Family and who will be involved, where the coronation will take place and the special crown jewels that will be present. We learnt about the clothes the King will wear and how he and Queen Camilla will travel to and from Westminster Abbey.
There have been lots of coronation activities this week including writing on large paper with Union Flag colours, using solid shapes to build models of London landmarks, making flags and bunting in the painting and creative areas and serving the King and Queen a delicious feast in our role play area! Some of us decided to make thrones in our outdoor construction area too! You can see in the photos below some of our coronation activities and some activities the children decided they would like to do as well. As a school we watched a video that taught us all about the coronation and what it involves. We loved dressing up as the colours of our Union Flag and enjoyed our Coronation celebration lunch in the hall. We looked AMAZING in our crowns we made at home. We also had an afternoon tea party with sausage rolls, crisps and buns to celebrate the day. We wrote about what the word "King" means to us and lots of us wrote that to be a king you need to be kind and helpful. We listened to a few Coronation stories this week including "Winnie the Pooh meets King Charles," "The King's Pants" and King Charles III's Colourful Coronation." Mrs Watson ran our Coronation Craft Workshop on Tuesday. Thank you so much to parents that attended and we hope you enjoyed it as much as the children! It was lovely to see you having fun together! Team EO joined us for a photo in the shape of "KCIII" which you should also receive on the whole school weekly newsletter from Mrs Lawson. We have had a lovely week and are excited to watch some of the coronation on the TV this weekend! This week we have been learning the Makaton signs for; King, crown, coronation and celebrate. Here we are signing our first sentence using Makaton! In preparation for our Travel topic next half term, The Rainbows have been learning some simple Spanish words and phrases.
Recently we have learnt that "Me Ilamo" means "My name is..." Everyday we watch when our name turns orange on the register and answer "Me Ilamo" followed by our name! We can all do this independently and have enjoyed singing the "Me Ilamo" song from Language Angels. |
