Today everyone proudly wore red to show Racism the Red Card. Rainbows learnt about how everyone is different and that this makes us special and unique.
We talked about how we look different to our friends and how are eyes are different colours, how our hair is a different colour/length/style and how we like different things. Some of us have pets, some of us have brothers or sisters and some of us don’t and that's ok! We recognised that people like doing different things, such as playing with our siblings, playing with dinosaurs or going to the park. If everyone is the same the world would not be an exciting place. We know that we are special and have celebrated our differences because they make us GREAT!

We have been using our senses to explore the insides of a pumpkin. We learnt that the inside of the pumpkin is called flesh and it contains seeds. We used our sense of sight, smell and touch to describe the pumpkin and had lots of fun!
Some of the words we used were; wet, cold, slimy, runny, gooey, squidgy, squishy, yellow, orange, soft and hard. We loved exploring it and squeezing it in our hands! This week on Welly Walk we have been making Autumn patterns. We hunted around for Autumn treasure in our nature area to see what we could find. We noticed there were more leaves on the floor and also found lots of sweet chestnut cases, some had the sweet chestnuts still inside.
Some of us continued a pattern to make it a repeating pattern and explained the pattern to an adult. Some of us created our own repeating pattern and described it to an adult. If we felt confident creating a pattern in a line, we had a try at making a repeating pattern in a circle. Some of our patterns were colour patterns, some were object patterns and some were both! Here are some of our patterns. Everyday when the Rainbows arrive at school, their first job as they enter the classroom is to vote for their favourite book. There are always two books to choose from and every child places a block on the tower in front of the book they would like to vote for to be read at story time.
The books are sometimes related to the learning theme for the week, by a specific author or based on the children's interests. An example of books we have voted for are; Barry the Fish with Fingers, Doug the Bug that went Boing, Norman the Slug with the Silly Shell and Keith the Cat with the Magic Hat, all by Sue Hendra. Each day the children count the votes for each book together and identify the tower with the most blocks and the fewest blocks. Rainbows have been learning to become independent when getting ready for outside play. We have been learning to do our coats up independently.
We have been learning a new song to help us that we sing to the tune of "Here we go round the Mulberry bush." Each verse has key vocabulary that we are learning. The vocabulary is a different colour. If your sleeves are inside out – Put your arm in your sleeve In your sleeve, in your sleeve Put your arm in your sleeve Grab, and pull it through Doing your coat up – Hold the bottom of the zip Of the zip, of the zip Hold the bottom of the zip Thread and pull it down Hold it tight and pull it up Pull it up, pull it up, Hold it tight and pull it up Right up to the top We are already making progress with this and it is lovely to see how proud the children are when they achieve something new after persevering! During phonics we have been continuing to orally blend by carefully listening to Fred Frog segmenting sounds. Some of us are really confident at this!
Our next challenge was to segment sounds in words and slide magnetic letter tiles to write the word. We then check the sounds are correct and in the right order by pointing to each sound and saying the letters then blend them together to read the word. We will continue practising this over the next few weeks with new sounds we have learnt. Some Rainbows have been working hard to develop their pincer grip when holding a pencil, pen or crayon. Our "perfect pencil grip" helps us to develop pressure on the page and form letters that can be recognised.
Here are some of us practising our perfect pencil grip during phonics! Today in school was Times Tables Rockstar day and Team CW didn't want to miss out on all the fun! Even though we don't learn times tables we had lots of fun today dressing up as rock stars and being fabulous at maths!
We continued to learn positional language and used the words; on top, above, next to, beside, in front, underneath, behind and inside. We described where Ginger Bear was hiding near the box using these words. We were given our own bears and had to listen carefully to instructions and place them in the correct position. We will continue to practise positional vocabulary throughout the day so we are confident and will then begin to learn new words including; beneath and below. We also had fun singing to 100! This week in Time to Talk we have continued to learn what we need to do to engage and be a good listener.
During one activity Ginger Bear was teaching us about two different emotions; happy and sad. We looked at the pictures and could say that Ginger was feeling happy because she was smiling. We knew Ginger was feeling sad because she had a sad face with tears. We learnt the word "frown." We practised making happy and sad faces in the mirror with a smile and frown. We know that when we see our friends feeling sad we can ask them if we can help because it isn't a nice emotion. Today we were learning to follow instructions by listening carefully to complete some Super Yoga. This was quite fast paced so we had to really listen hard and watch the screen carefully to help us follow the instructions. We had to position our body into lots of different poses. Some of them were stretched, some were laying on our back or stomach and some involved making small movements.
We tried so hard to follow the instructions and had lots of fun! We could feel our heart beating faster at the end of the activity! |
