Over the past couple of weeks Team JF have worked incredibly hard to become familiar with and write animal riddles. To begin with, we listened to and read lots of riddles to understand the structure and features. From this, we worked on building our skills in preparation for writing. The children have produced some fantastic animal riddles and had lots of fun reading them to each other!

Today the children started a new unit for the summer term ‘Friendship song’. To begin with, they listened to the music and discussed the tempo of the song, how it was structured and the pitch. From this, they began breaking down each verse to rehearse and practice the words. As they became familiar with this, we put the song back together and rehearsed as a whole class and stopping at trickier parts. Finally, the class broke off into groups of three to perform to their audience. They were amazing at this and most were confident enough tossing a solo verse!Today Team JF started an introduction to time. This was a practical session with lots of discussion and practice using the clocks. To begin with, we spoke about each feature of a clock and the names such as hands, face, and hour. From this, we spoke about different times of the day such as lunch time, bed time. Alongside this, we spoke about and practiced o’clock. The children we given numerous o’clock times to make and even had the opportunity to come to the front in role of the ‘teacher’ and challenge each other ! Today the children started exploring text. We initially discussed this in the classroom and identified many reasons for editing a text. As we gained a better understanding, we moved into the computer suite to put our skills to the test! The children had the task of writing and editing their own text. This included changing the font, size and colour. Today the children of Team JF worked incredibly hard to perform their cheer routines. They worked alongside each other to ensure they were in sync, had the correct hand positions and incorporated a range of stances. They were phenomenal! This week in Team JF we have started exploring a new style of drawing, 'fine line'. This linked with our science unit of plants and the children had the opportunity to get outdoors! Here they observed the plants on the school grounds and drew them including lots of detail. As part of this half terms enquiry focus, comparative and fair testing, Team JF have carried out an exciting investigation. We tested a range of materials to identify the most waterproof. To make it a fair test, we had to ensure we used the same amount of water for each material, incorporating our measuring skills! We found out that leather was the most waterproof. We finished off our computing this term by creating our own castle paintings! The children tried really hard to ensure their pictures were accurate and had to be incredibly precise with their mouse! Once complete, they saved their work independently into their own file. As part of our 'present' stage for writing, Team JF spent some time with the younger children in CH and read their fabulous pieces of writing to them! The children had produced information texts about a range of sea creatures and as they had tried incredibly hard and were so amazing, we decided we needed other people to hear! This term Team JF have centered their art and DT around the castles topic. They have produced some fantastic shield and castle designs, focusing on the intricate details. As part of their DT project this term, the children have designed and built some amazing castles of their own! |
