Welcome from the Head...
Welcome EVERYONE to Wombwell Park Street Primary School from Mrs C Lawson, the headteacher.
On behalf of the staff, children and Governors of the school, I would like to welcome you to Wombwell Park Street Primary School's website.
Our school ethos!
Park Street is a really happy school – supported by enthusiastic, friendly and hard working children and a committed, approachable and knowledgeable staff team! We pride ourselves on working as a TEAM. Children and staff strongly believe ‘Together Everyone Achieves More’ – our school motto!
Daily, we try to ensure that we provide a safe setting for all children and aim to engage and excite learners. We do this through an outstanding curriculum and in an amazing school environment, which visitors always comment positively on. All our children are valued equally, are very well supported and are empowered to do their best and enjoy learning. Performing Arts and Sports are held in high regard and staff work really hard to ensure the core subjects are taught rigorously, but supported by a curriculum which allows all children to excel in some way.
We really value parental involvement and are currently working very hard to involve parents in the daily running of our school eg stay and play sessions, Reading workshops for parents each Tuesday for FS and KS1 children, Coffee Mornings, performances and open lessons for parents to attend. We welcome parental feedback and involvement in school life and value strong working relationships for the good of the children.

When you look at our website you will see why I am so very proud to be the Headteacher of Wombwell Park Street Primary School. Since 2010, we have received two ‘Good’ OFSTED Inspections (January 2010 and November 2014). In our latest OFSTED, we were judged to be a ‘Good’ school – but with many outstanding features (in Behaviour and Safety and the Effectiveness of Leadership and Management) – a judgement our school was very pleased with. Our staff team is fully committed to providing the best education possible for our children. They very regularly seek professional development, share ideas with each other, team-teach and encourage each other to be the best teacher possible. As a result, all of our teachers are at least ‘good’ with many being 'outstanding'. Our teachers try very hard to be the best they can be and to model how life is about being a 'continual learner'- something which rubs off on the children!
Since our last OFSTED we have continued to work tirelessly to continually improve the number of outstanding areas within our school. We have a positive ethos throughout school based on high expectations, praise and reward. Each child’s individual success is celebrated both at home and at school and we try our best to engage parents in this process. The close supportive relationship that we have between home and school is crucial to each child achieving their full potential and parents are welcome in school at any time – we have an open door policy and will always try to help. Our policy of zero tolerance towards violence, aggression and bullying enables our children to learn in a safe and happy environment. All the school works towards achieving the 3Bs - Best Work, Best Manners and Best Behaviour.
Standards and Quality Assurance!
The improvement in our standards over the past three years have been pleasing in most areas, but we always aim to be even better!
Our OFSTED targets (November 2014) are:
We also focus on the 'Basic Skills' and have annual reviews from external agencies for our ‘Basic Skills Quality Mark’, who analyse our progress in the areas of:
As well as this, we have annual visits from Senior Leaders within our Trust, who complete a 'Learning Review' of the school. Our most recent one of these visits was in May 2017 and it was very successful; Leaders judged teaching and learning standards to be very strong and the areas we were already working on to be accurate.
Our growing school!
Our school has recently experienced a very exciting time; in September 2016 we opened three new classrooms, which we had had built on to the back of the school! This was in response to elevated birth rates in the Wombwell area and more parents in our local community wanting to send their children to Park Street. We have had our admission number increased from 34 to 50 over the past two years and intend on admitting 45 each September in to Reception, from September 2017 (having taken 50 children for the previous two years). We take great pride that our community wants to send their children to our lovely school and thank them for this. We have a six year growth plan for the school and by 2022 we hope to have a school of around 370 children from Nursery to Year 6!
I feel we have a wonderful balance of newly or recently qualified teachers and some very well established outstanding teachers at our school, all who work hard to offer the best possible offer for the children of Wombwell. It is a very exciting time at Park Street! Please have a browse through our website – we hope you find everything that you are looking for and enjoy looking at the exciting learning opportunities we have on through school!
Thank you for your interest in Wombwell Park Street Primary. I look forward to meeting you very soon.

The improvement in our standards over the past three years have been pleasing in most areas, but we always aim to be even better!
Our OFSTED targets (November 2014) are:
- to challenge the more able children through school
- to ensure our children who receive Pupil Premium expenditure meet the same attainment expectations as others in the school and those nationally.
We also focus on the 'Basic Skills' and have annual reviews from external agencies for our ‘Basic Skills Quality Mark’, who analyse our progress in the areas of:
- the attainment of Good Level of Development (GLD attainment at the end of Reception year);
- Phonics attainment at the end of Year 1 and Year 2
- improving the amount of middle and higher attaining children we have by further raising expectations over learning.
As well as this, we have annual visits from Senior Leaders within our Trust, who complete a 'Learning Review' of the school. Our most recent one of these visits was in May 2017 and it was very successful; Leaders judged teaching and learning standards to be very strong and the areas we were already working on to be accurate.
