.Well done Team Park Street. Your Pudsey inspired spotastic costumes looked amazing. We had a busy day of bun sales, spot hunting, spot activities and worked hard to raise lots of money for some very worth while causes. Well done. All classes were involved but here is a bit of info from Team CW.
Team LL enjoyed their library visit. We had chance to explore the library and enjoy the books. Library staff talked to the pupils about the history of the library, different services and gave the children a bit of information about the role of the librarian. We learnt about why the library is so important to our local community. Fab time had by all.
A fantastic time was had by all at our Autumn Term disco. Huge thank you to our parents group for organising the event. Great fun for grown ups and children. Even Mrs Lawson and Mrs Longden enjoyed the conga.
To mark the holy festival of Diwali children were invited to come to school wearing bright colour. Our children also had the chance to learn about Diwali through a story and dance workshop.
We were very lucky to receive some help from our local Imam who came into school and worked with our Year 4 and 5 pupils. Children spoke to the Imam and learnt about what it is like to be a Muslim. Many thanks to our governor Mrs Chavan who helped arrange the visit.
Our local community policing team paid a visit to speak to our KS2 pupils and then our KS1 pupil about how to stay safe and what life is like for our local police force.
As part of the Year 4 and Year 5 Geography topic, Teams JD, LF and DB visited the local area of Wombwell. The purpose of the visit was for the children to be able to compare Whitby and Wombwell; including buildings, landmarks, industry, educational buildings, recreational areas, and other important similarities and differences between the two locations.
By visiting Wombwell, the children had the chance to experience all the favourite parts of their local area, including, the cemetery, police station, shops, pubs, churches, memorials, housing, and other significant landmarks. The walk was self-guided, and we made sure to see as much of the village as we possibly could. We made note of the some of the dates on the buildings and we observed that the majority of the houses were terraced and some of them dated all the way back to 1895. The children also learnt that many homes would have once housed the miners from the area. The children were amazed at the historical aspects of the village as well as commenting on the art-deco window frames found on the older buildings in Wombwell. Mrs Longden and Mrs Fitchett were lucky enough to attend an event at Wentworth Woodhouse this week. The event provided the opportunity for teachers, leaders, arts professionals, museum and gallery staff and members of the Barnsley Fusion team to meet together to look at different ways that schools could enrich further their curriculums through visits to the many museums, places of interest and galleries in our local area. We also had the opportunity to discuss possible learning collaborations with other schools. We would very much like to build further on the collaborative connections we made during The Kite Festival of Joy lead by Park Street staff last year. We already have some exciting projects and visits in mind for next year. Watch this space!
Thank you so much to parents and members of our community for supporting our summer events so brilliantly.
Our parents group worked hard with school staff to prepare for the summer fair. It was incredibly well attended and it was a real pleasure to see so many parents/carers and members of our local community. It has also been lovely to have so many parents, carers and members of our local community in school enjoying the many summer term performances. Park Street most definitely has talent the children's acting, singing, dancing and playing has been phenomenal. Despite the weather proving particularly challenging over the last week or so it has been lovely to see parents enjoying our class sports events. |
