Team AC have really enjoyed their computing this term. Following the Purple Mash lessons, the class started by looking at how they can keep safe online and why it is so important. The children had fun creating their own avatars and learnt what they could share online and what they shouldn’t share with others. Team AC learnt how to open and send emails safely. Their favourite lessons have been ‘Making Music’ lessons where they have had great fun changing simple tunes. They experimented by adding different instruments and varying the speed and volume to see how their new version sounded when played back. The children can't wait to see what else they can learn next term.

For their computing focus this half term, Team CB have been busy learning all about internet safety. They discussed the importance of staying safe online and the need for passwords which are secure and unlikely to be guessed by others. They then delved deeper into this to consider why it is necessary to have different passwords for different accounts and the implications of not keeping our passwords private. The class explored different forms of communication online, before looking explicitly at blogging. They discussed how blogs are often personal perspectives and that this can result in people expressing views that others may not like or agree with in some instances. In further sessions, they posed the question ‘Can we always trust the internet?’ This led to the children exploring spoof websites to assess whether or not the information on the site was true. They discussed why people may not always write factual information. To support their understanding of this concept, the class created their own spoof webpages before recapping how it is important to not always trust the sources they read and to double check the validity of the site we are getting information from. Finally, Team CB have investigated the purpose of age restrictions in managing content that children may see online or in games. They looked closely at BBC file classifications and PEGI ratings for games, thinking about the purpose these symbols serve with helping parents and children. They then discussed the effects of experiencing inappropriate content in both physical and emotional ways.
This half term, Team LF have focussed on Spreadsheets throughout their computing lessons. The children have worked on the following:
Team LF have used 2Calculate (on Purple Mash) to format numbers and add formulas to cells in order for cells to automatically create calculations. The children have combined tools (timer, random number, spin) to make fun ways of exploring numbers. They have also used a series of data in a spreadsheet in order to create a line graph. |
