In our Maths group time today, we have been practising our noticing skills as well as counting carefully and recognising numbers. We played a game on the computer where we had to say how many sea creatures we could see and then click the matching numeral. Some children managed to say what they could see without counting them (by subitising) and there was lots of talk such as "I can see 2 at the top and 1 at the bottom- that's 3!" Very clever!
The game was left on the interactive whiteboard during provision time too and some children enjoyed playing independently. They learnt that they had to take turns as they found that it didn't work if more than one person clicked at once.
