Team DB have been busy investigating circuits and their key components. We researched what a circuit consisted of and what its purpose could be. Then, we drew and labelled scientific diagrams of circuits containing batteries, bulbs, wires and switches. Mrs Bamforth explained that Team DB would be using these diagrams to design, create and eventually evaluate a light circuit to attach to their European landmark which they constructed in Art! We cannot wait to start creating!

Mr Davison explained that Team JD would be using these diagrams to design, create and eventually evaluate a light circuit to attach to their European landmark which they constructed in Art. Team CW have been busy in our creative area the past few weeks and have been building on skills we learnt at home and at nursery. We have been learning to connect materials together by using glue and tape, and some of us have been learning to connect using split pins to make parts of our models move. We are beginning to decorate what we make and add detail and some of us have made some fantastic fire engines with windows, lights and even a ladder!
An important part of building is changing what we do if something doesn’t work or if we have even better ideas! We have been learning to be resilient and keep trying and then try something else if our plan doesn’t work. We can also talk about our design and are beginning to explain what our models can do and how we made them. Year 6 have investigated plate tectonics and their role in making the Pacific Rim a seriously extreme place for volcanic activity. As well as learning about extreme weather and revising key oceans, continents, mountains, we have also investigated how and why earthquakes happen, and the human and physical impact of these catastrophic events. This will lead into Year 6 designing and creating a device to detect volcanic eruptions.
We have booked out two full days in the second half of the Autumn term to look at creating, designing and evaluating early warning systems for a natural disaster. We will be challenging children to apply their knowledge of electrical circuits in their designs. We cannot wait! |
