Our Topic for this term, in Team AC, is the weather and seasons, so this week Team AC have been learning about the months and the types of weather in different seasons. They created some wonderful collages to show the different seasons and also talked about what clothes would be useful to wear in different types of weather. Team AC even listened to the seasons, by hearing Vivaldi's Four Seasons.

On Thursday afternoon we had our first Welly Walk of the year! We were very excited about this, we learnt how to keep safe on Welly Walk, walked down sensibly in pairs and had fun exploring our nature reserve. We have already spotted signs of Autumn - we can’t wait to go back down to take part in an Autumn hunt!
In Geography, we developed our confidence in saying how many months there are in a year and how many seasons there are. We could identify the 4 seasons and we have looked at what the weather might be like in each season.
In Science, we focused on Autumnal changes – we learnt about the Autumn months, how the days get shorter, what the weather is like and what happens to animals. Key vocabulary: Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland, England, Ireland, London, Edinburgh, Belfast, Cardiff, capital city, north, south, east, west, North Pole, South Pole, temperature, map, symbol; environment, landscape, symbols, location, globe
This week in Geography Team CH were hooked into their learning with the use of ‘follow me’ cards. This gave all children the opportunity to work as a class to tap into their prior knowledge of the United Kingdom. After this we used Atlases to locate some of the 69 cities in the UK and presented these on a map. Once children had completed their map of the UK we introduced a campus and using the language north, east, south and west we moved from city to city. Finally, we found out way to Wombwell using a digital map and identified some landmarks that would help us find our way to school. Again, using the language north, east, south and west we directed each other to the different landmarks within the classroom. This half-term in Geography Team EO started by learning to name the 4 seasons and we discussed briefly what the weather was like in each season. We have used songs to help us remember the order of the months of the year. As the half-term has progressed we have developed our confidence in saying how many months there are in a year. We know what the weather might look like in each season. Team EO have explored different weather types and discussed appropriate clothing for these weathers. We have sorted items of clothing into which weather we would need to wear it in. We have found a song really useful to teach us about the four countries and capital cities in the UK. We worked hard to label the countries on a map of the UK and we will continue to recall saying the countries and capital cities. Finally, we have identified different weather symbols and over the course of a week we completed a daily weather diary to record weather patterns.
Team SG were introduced to their Geography topic this week and were asked to consider their existing knowledge and understanding about Europe. We looked at digital maps as well as globes and atlases to discover where each European country could be found, locating them on a map.
