During this half term our topic focus is Europe. To reflect this in art we have researched European landmarks and the country and city they are in. As a class we chosen five landmarks to focus on. We then decided who was going in each group. We have loved researching our chosen landmark and working as team to decide on the recycled items appropriate to our buildings. We have spent the last two weeks starting to create our designs with our chosen materials.

This week Team JF have continued to explore seasonal changes. To begin with, we recapped the seasons of the year and what the weather is like during each. From this we started to explore other changes we may notice. We discussed the length of the days, the clothes we may wear and what happens to the trees.
In Geography, we learnt to name the four countries and capital cities in the UK and we labelled the countries on a map of the UK. We identified different weather symbols and over the course of the week we have completed a daily weather diary to record weather patterns.
Today, SG worked in groups to begin building their own models of European landmarks. They've been putting in great effort, focusing on details, conducting independent research, and drawing inspiration from our artist of the term, Renzo Piano. Their models are nearly ready for painting! The landmarks they're creating range from those close to home, like Big Ben, to iconic sites like the Parthenon in Greece.
Extreme Earth. Year 6 have loved finding out about a wide range of extreme weather and following the news to find out about a range of natural disasters. we have used our map skills to locate places and different countries along the Pacific Ring of fire.
Team AC talked about the activities or places we might visit in different seasons. In Autumn, we might do some Halloween activities or go to a bonfire and watch fireworks but in Summer we may be able to play outside for longer and also visit the beach or go on holiday.
Team AC discovered we started a new month this week and that it is the tenth month of this year. We also noticed the weather is getting colder as we move through Autumn and the weather symbols we have used this week have been the rain, sun and cloud symbols. We did agree that the rainy weather isn't great for us being able to be outside, but the rain helps us to have enough water to drink and for plants to grow.
In Geography, we explored different weather types and discussed appropriate clothing for these weathers. We then sorted items of clothing into which weather we would need to wear it in.
Earlier this week, on Team CW's Welly Walk, they went on an Autumn hunt! The children were all very excited to see what they could find and to talk about the changes they could see happening in the environment around them.
The children discussed the colours that they could see, the shape of the leaves they had found, how they felt and also learnt to identify some unfamiliar things! The children hadn't heard of sweet chestnut and found lots of them. They were very spikey and had to be careful when picking them up. The children brought some of their finds back to the classroom so they could investigate them further. Here they are having lots of fun and showing what they had found! |
