Team AC - History Enrichment Day

Florence Nightingale Experience 

Thursday 20th March saw year 1 and 2 take part in an exciting day where they learnt all about the life of Florence Nightingale to further enrich the work already done through their lessons. The children were given the option to dress as a child of the Victorian period to fully emerse themselves in the history of that time. The children were split into two groups and each group spent time with Kathryn who talked to them about what the life and conditions would have been like for Florence. They discovered why she decided to become a nurse and the legacy ands importance of her work. Each group listened intently and asked and answered questions about Florence's life and work. They all had tasks to complete including: 

• ‘Florence Treats the Wounded Soldiers’ and ‘Writing to Lord Sidney for Supplies’
• ‘Training to be a Nurse’ and ‘Home Remedies’ 
• ‘Medicine Makers and Spas’ 
• ‘Preparing for Florence’s Homecoming’ which involved creating lines for a song for Florence

A very hands on educational day was had by all the children and gave the children a better sense of life at that time
