This week Team CB started their new history topic on the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. As a class they explored why these times were considered prehistory. They looked at the word in detail to understand the prefix ‘pre’ meaning before and that history is a study of the past. They talked about if it was before studies of the past this meant that there was no written record. As a class they agreed this could be a tricky time to learn about with no written accounts, but using the bin as a prop we discovered the role of archaeologists. They used the bin to discuss how there is a lot to be learned from items left behind and what these can tell us about life – this is how we know so much about the Ages. As a class, they then looked in more detail at what the Ages were, the order they occurred and the duration they lasted. To support their understanding, they created a human timeline and look at the length each of these lasted in comparison with each other.
