In EYFS the children follow Understanding the World objectives, which are the building blocks to learning about history in Key Stage 1.
Rainbows will be developing their understanding of chronology and how things change over time. They are going to be developing their observation skills, and in turn their vocabulary to help them explain what they observe. Rainbows will be seeing what happens to pieces of bread when they are placed in a sealed bag over a number of weeks. They also placed some of their fruit waste from snack time in bags to observe what happens. Their experiment will continue over the next couple of weeks and they will keep us updated on our findings. Observational skills are very important as they are key to historians understanding life in the past. The experiment will also help develop their understanding of chronology and help develop their vocabulary by understanding and using words such as; first, next, then, finally, before, after, a long time ago, in the past. Watch this space for updates!
