In Maths, Reception have counted things that cannot be seen, discussed and practised strategies for counting larger sets – by moving objects and by moving images and we have made our own collections of 20 objects from objects in provision - super work Reception!
Our Year 1 children have learnt to explain that addends can be represented in any order and that this is called the commutative law, explained that the = sign can be used to show that the whole and the sum of the parts are equal and we have added parts to find the value of the whole and write the equation! In Mastering Number our Year 1 children have practised subtraction from the even numbers 6, 8 and 10. The children’s attention was drawn to the fact that when even numbers are partitioned into two parts, the parts are both even or both odd.
