Today Team EO learnt to demonstrate basic attacking skills.
Team EO started their PE lesson with a warm-up game which was called "Animals" and on Miss Palmers command they had to move around in follwoing ways:
Their next activity was square-passing. The pupils were divided up into groups of 4 - 3 of them stood on the outside of the square and one of them inside as the defender . The children on the outside (the attackers) had to pass the ball to each other aiming to avoid the defender getting the ball. If the defender got the ball the person who passed it would become the defender and the current defender would become the attacker! To cool down, Team EO played shoot. The children were divided into two teams they had to throw the ball to our partner positioned opposite us, they had to shoot into the net to score a point and then give the ball back to us so we could score a point! The orange team was the winning team!

On Wednesday 10 of our Y4 children attended a Benchball event at Netherwood.
The children will played in school teams and engaged in a round robin tournament. Throughout this event we celebrated the core values of sport such as: resilience, teamwork and communication. Our Park Street team won 5 out of the 6 games - winning overall! Us Park Streeters were very competitive! The children we given a certificate for their efforts. The other schools commented on how good Park Street was. Mrs Akyel said "I loved how we worked as a team and encouraged each other mid game." and that the pupils were "A credit to our school.". Well done Y4 Benchballers - we are all super proud of you! Team CH have been focusing on improving their catching and throwing skills in PE! They have been practicing their technique to make sure they're using the right posture, grip, and timing. By working on these fundamentals, the children are getting better at controlling the ball and making accurate throws. It’s been fun challenging ourselves to improve, and the pupils are seeing great progress in both individual and team performances!
The Rainbows had the opportunity to take part in some dragon dancing for Chinese New Year during their busy time. They watched and copied the different movements the dragon made in the video including moving their body at different heights, balancing and jumping.
Here are a couple of the Rainbows wonderful dancers having fun! In PE this week Team EO have been learning how to defend a space against other pupils in small sided games.
They started warming up by playing a game called "Defend the treasure chest". The children were split into 4 groups and each group had a hoop. 4 of the Sunshines were defenders who were positioned opposite their team by the "box" in the centre. They had to take turns to run to the "box" collect the treasure and return to their hoop without getting touched by the defender. For our main activity they worked in groups of 3 to play "piggy in the middle"! Here are some photos of Team EO in action! Team JD's unit of learning this half-term is tennis.
During tennis this week, Team JD have been learning how to hold a tennis racket, moving and catching, moving with balance and catching the ball, ball control and working in partners to throw and hit the ball in a variety of directions. The children have found trying position the racket in the correct hold and hit the ball tricky but have been resilient learners. They will recap their newly learnt skills next week. Today for Feel Good Friday the Rainbows did some Yoga. They know that Yoga keeps both our mind and body healthy.
Today was the first time the Rainbows followed a story for Yoga rather than take part in the speedy super yoga activities. They stretched, balanced and moved in different ways to help improve their strength, balance and flexibility while following the story! Development of gross motor skills is very important in nursery as they learn to control our bodies to make different movements. This morning the children had a go at ribbon dancing. They practised large scale movements with their ribbons- big circles, lines going up and down, lines going across and a curved rainbow. Then the children swapped hands so both our arms get a work out! Next they played some music and everyone enjoyed practising their moves and making up their own too. This afternoon, it was time to dance with the Tumble Tots! The children made different moves to lots of different action songs- clapping, marching, stamping, spinning, jumping, stretching, bending, touching our toes and much more! They also enjoyed singing along to the different songs.
In the Shooting Stars' funky fingers tray, the children have enjoyed exploring pom-poms to develop our fine motor skills. The challenge was to pick up different sized pom-poms using tweezers- it was quite tricky, especially with the tiny ones! They moved them into dishes and there was lots of Mathematical opportunities too as they sorted them, counted them and talked about size and colour.
Our Nursery children have enjoyed mark making on a large scale with their chunky crayons today. The children were able to practise circles, lines going up and down and across, dots and lots of other patterns while exploring. This is great to support their motor development as well as practise making the shapes we will need to be able to form letters.
