The Year 6 teams have been on their class residential to Robin Wood. This visit has provided lots of personal and social opportunities for the children to challenge themselves, show resilience, perseverance and team work.

This week we have been learning all about mental health and how we need to keep our brain healthy and happy. We have been taking "brain breaks" to help our brain slow down and keep us calm. We enjoyed the yoga activities and flew in a hot air balloon and on a magic carpet! We also did some mindfulness colouring and created some bookmarks by colouring in some tricky designs very carefully. We listened to the story "Ruby's Worry" and know that we can help our mental health by talking about things we may be worried about, as the worry shrinks until it disappears. Our class story vote books also helped promote our wellbeing and good mental health. These are some of the significant people discussed in our assemblies this half term. Next week in school we are participating in Children's mental health week. The theme of the week is My Voice Matters and that through being listened to it can help to raise confidence, resilience and self-esteem. We are also focussing on kindness to ourselves and others throughout school to help with building confidence to talk about the things that matter. If any parents and carers feels that they would like more information on topics that they feel affect their child's mental health and impact their own this site has some useful advice and information. https://parentingsmart.place2be.org.uk/ Here at Park Street we strive to create a positive environment within classes and the Rainbows begin the day saying positive things about themselves.
It is sometimes difficult to say what we are good at, and to name the good qualities that we have, and we believe this is something that every child should be able to do to develop their self worth, self confidence and believe how wonderful and special they are. It is so important they see these qualities and believe what they can offer to others. We begin the day by saying a positive phrase about ourselves, such as "we are kind" or "we are amazing" and this really does make a difference. |
