This week the assemblies have had an environmental theme. The week started by learning about Gretta Thunburg and how from her early childhood she has been using her voice to empower a generation to campaign for the environment and raise awareness of climate change.

This week in assembly the school community listened to some interesting facts about Mahatma Ghandi and how he used peaceful resistance to protest against British rule in India. This was followed by discussions in class ahead of International Day of Peace on Thursday. Within the school community we follow the golden rule of 'being kind and helpful, and not hurting others' For each class it was important t0 reflect on that rule and how we try to resolve conflicts in non-violent ways. Each class in school has started the new school year with considering rules for their class. In this week's Wednesday assembly Year 6 Team LL celebrated international democracy day with a presentation in assembly.
This year’s theme for the International Day of Democracy, “Empowering the next generation,” focuses on young people’s essential role in advancing democracy and ensuring that their voices are included in the decisions that have a profound impact on their world. Well done Year 6 for using your voices to share your knowledge about democracy and its importance as a British Value with the school community. |
