This week, the children discussed what makes a balanced diet and learned about the importance of making healthy choices and developing good eating habits.
In our One life this term we have focused on self awareness, families, friends and healthy eating. We discussed things that make us human and focusing on the mirror and what we like about ourselves, Our inner cheerleader and inner critic. We also, concentrated on things that make us happy and being a good friend. Finally we discussed the importance of foods on our physical and mental health. What we put in our body and feeds our mind not just our bodies. This week in One Life Team CW have been learning about
How to make a new friend, That we need to be good listeners and pay attention when someone is talking to us, That we must show care and kindness to each other. They began the lesson by singing a friendship song "This is the way we make friends." They then read the story The Friendship Bench. They talked about sometimes we can feel lonely or isolated, and that sometimes we have to keep trying a few times to make friends as it isn't always easy. We know that being a loving and caring friend means you notice when others feel left out, are sad or lonely, and you try and think about their feelings. They talked about what we need to do to be a good friend, and that friends should make us feel safe and happy. We have a friendship bench in our EYFS playground and know if someone is sat on it we can go and engage with them and be their friend. Rainbows know they can sit there if they would like some company and someone to listen to them and play with them. In our one life lessons this week we looked what friendships meant to us and what it is to be a good friend. We made our own paper doll chain to display in the classroom to show that we are all friends in Team AC!
This week our learning has focused around the question "Who are the people who help me?".
Our book of the week was “A Superhero Like You”. We spoke about the different jobs in the story and how these people help us and we have been learning the Makaton signs for different people who help us. We listened carefully to the story “When I grow up” and thought carefully about what we want to do when we are older. Team EO have lots of ambitious careers such as; doctors, nurses, teachers, firefighters and artists to name a few! As part of our learning this week our home corner was turned into a bakery, we have been junk modelling emergency vehicles and drawing pictures to show what we want to be when we grow up! In One Life, we read the book ‘Our Class is a Family’ – we spoke about our families and how they are all different. We know that what makes a family is love, care and protection. We know we have to show respect and kindness – just like at school because we are a family too!
October is Black History Month. During the month each class will undertake a study of an influential black person and find out how they have contributed to developing tolerance, diversity and well-being in Britain or the wider world.
