This morning, Team LF engaged in an online virtual assembly, an annual celebration hosted by Parent Zone and Google. The aim of the assembly was to focus on some online safety scenarios in which children had to vote for the safest and sensible option about how to behave. For example, what they would do if a friend was sent an inappropriate message from another person. The children had some great ideas about what to do in each case and could talk around the reasons for their responses. It was lovely to see the whole class engaged, sharing ideas and discussing what they had learnt from the assembly.

Team CH have been learning about Mary Seacole, her influence and lessons that can be learnt from her life about racial discrimination. Today, the children have been celebrating and learning about the history of Children In Need and how it started in November 1980. The children developed an understanding how the charity developed from a tradition established during the 1930s, whereby there would be a 5 minute radio plea on Christmas Day for those children who were less fortunate. This then progressed into a televised plea as technology progressed, until, finally becoming a telethon on national TV. Further to this, the children established an understanding of Sir Terry Wogan's legacy and how he was the face of Children in Need for many years.
To help raise money for this amazing cause, the children were invited to wear spots for the day, as well as taking part in Spot-tacular event, chasing and finding as many spots as they could around Park Street. Unfortunately, Team LF found 49/50 in the given time but that didn't stop the children from having fun. Throughout the day, they also participated in maths events, as well activities during our 'Incredible Us!' time. The highlight of the day was definitely the bun sale at break time! This week is road safety week. This is a national campaign run each year by Brake to raise awareness or road safety and help prevent deaths. It runs from 19th to 25th November. 5 people die each day in the UK in road accidents. In school each class will be completing activities to raise their awareness of road safety. . Children in need gave Team JF the opportunity to talk about charity and the work that Children in need does in supporting children and families in the UK. The anti-bullying alliance have put together an information pack about dealing with bullying as part of the good work they do in helping to recognise, prevent and challenge bullying behaviour. |
