In addition to our weekly One Life lessons, the year 6 children have engaged in some wider PSHE learning. BLACK HISTORY MONTH Why was Martin Luther King's 'I have a dream' speech so important? We explored the events leading up to the speech including protests against racial injustice and segregation. Pupils had the opportunity to write their own speeches to inspire others to make the world a better place. ROAD SAFETY WEEK We looked at the statistics linked to which age groups of children were most likely to be involved in a RTA - it is ours!!! We revisited all the important rules we have learnt over the years around how to stay safe on and near roads. ANTIBULLYING WEEK - we were lucky enough to have a member of the local community policing team come to speak to us about Internet safety and one are we focused on was cyberbullying and just how hurtful and harmful it can be. We also discussed how we can make sure our school remains a bullying-free zone. The year 6 team are passionate about this and created some posters offering support and advice, which are displayed around school.

This week is road safety week 25. In EYFS and KS1 classes will be reminding and teaching the importance of crossing roads with an adult, following safe instructions for crossing the road and why it is important to wear a seatbelt in a car and helmets on bikes.
We will also share messages about been safe and seen, especially as the days are getting shorter. In KS2 classes will be reminded of how to cross roads safely and what is a safe place to cross a road. Also, how paying attention, not looking at phones etc is crucial to crossing roads safely. It’s never a nice fact to hear, but road crashes are the leading cause of death for children and young people worldwide, and more than six children are killed or seriously injured on roads every day in the UK. Images | Brake This week is anti bullying week. The theme of the week is use your voice for the power of good. This means using your voice to speak positively to others and speak out when you see bullying behaviours.
During the week at school:- Monday is odd sock day. Please come to school in odd socks to celebrate your uniqueness. Wednesday is positive noticing day. Following an assembly by Mr Fidment the school community will return to class and focus on recognising something positive about all member of the class, adults and children. As part of our One Life lessons this week classes have been thinking about the affects of negative thoughts on self esteem and emotions. This has linked to discussions about how bullying can impact these things. |
