In the second of the Autumn half terms, Team AC children have continued their learning in the Read Write Inc. programme, building on the strong foundations from earlier in the term. Some of them have been learning and practising set 2 sounds and using them to read and write words more confidently. The children have also been developing their blending skills to read green words and sentences with increasing fluency. They have also been learning to recognise and read red words by sight. Through daily phonics sessions and story reading, the children have continued to grow in confidence as readers and writers.

Reception children have continued to learn Set 1 single letter sounds and some have begun to learnt Set 1 special friends. Year 1 children have been recapping Set 2 sounds and beginning to learn Set 3 sounds. Reception children have been learning to “Fred Talk, Read the Word” and our Year 1 children have continued to consolidate their “Special Friends, Fred Talk, Read the Word”. The class have had a focus on speedy reading which will be continuing in the Spring term. Their core book this half-term has been Zog, which they have enjoyed listening to over and over again. This has enabled the children to join in with repeated phrases throughout the book and they have enjoyed retelling the story in the reading corner with their friends.
This half term in Literacy Team CW have shared lots of stories relating to their termly theme of Sparkle and Shine and their weekly themes of: light and dark, colours, bullying, opposites, and Christmas. They have discussed the characters feelings, actions and plot and learnt new vocabulary and how to use it in different contexts. In their daily phonics lessons they have been practising learning new sounds, with many children learning special friends ch,sh,th,ng,nk,qu,ck. They have also been practising reading and writing CVC words and beginning to write the sounds they can hear in words to accompany their drawings . In the continuous provision the children are provided with lots of opportunities to write , such as making lists in our Santa’s grotto. The children have also been involved in activities to develop their fine motor skills: throughout the continuous provision .
