During the Spring term, Team AC have been studying non-fiction texts about the Great Fire of London. The children have been able to find information and acquire new vocabulary linked to history. They have looked at how information and evidence can be found from reading diaries and newspaper articles from that time, as well as working to develop their explanation and summarising skills. The class have also looked at ‘Vlad and the Great Fire of London’ by Kate Cunningham. This is to compare how a narrative piece contrasts with a non-fiction. It is also from the point of view of the animals that lived at that time. It is an innovative resource which brings to life the reality of life in London in 1666 in a very engaging way.
