Summer 1 - Team EO

In Summer 1, Team EO’s learning journey was Watch It Grow. The class enjoyed learning about plant and animal life cycles through a variety of high-quality texts such as The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Superworm, A Tiny Seed, Supertato and Bumpus Jumpus Dinosaurumpus. They also enjoyed reading a range of texts during their Talk Through Stories learning, including George and the Dragon, The Bear and the Piano, The Extraordinary Gardener and Gigantosaurus. In addition, they children enjoyed listening to and learning the poem Zanzibar. During Talk Through Stories sessions, pupils enthusiastically joined in with repeated phrases, explored characters’ feelings through freeze-frame activities, and developed comprehension skills by quizzing characters. Children in Reception have continued to build on their strong foundations in RWI, with most children now learning Set 2 sounds and beginning to spot and read these within words. Children in Year 1 now know most Set 3 sounds and the additional sounds. They have been working hard on reading words using ‘Special Friends’, Fred Talk and ‘Read the Word’.
