Wombwell Park Street Primary School is a really inclusive school. We try really hard to cater for all of the needs of the children within our care and support their families too. We spend a long time getting to know the children, their barriers to learning and socialising and put extensive support in place to help improve matters for them and the remaining children in school. To us, every child matters.
We believe that this goes a long way to contribute to children achieving their full potential. However, on occasions, we do need to address any significant behaviours in school, which may result in children being excluded from school. We would only ever do this as a last resort, but we do have high expectations. Due to the work that the school does, we currently have low levels of suspension and exclusion.
Like many schools, we use Barnsley MBC guidelines. The Headteacher may suspend a child for actions which fall under the following areas:
If a child is suspended, we would let the parent(s) know as soon as possible and invite them in to school to collect their child and complete the necessary paperwork. We would also provide work for the child to do at home. We would also organise a return to school meeting, for the child's return to school to ease them back in and ensure this transition was seamless. The Headteacher would also inform the Chair of Governors, CEO and Local Authority. Copies of these forms would also be handed to the parent.
