Year 6 enjoyed all things number. We got stuck into the Time Table Rockstars battle aiming to secure a decent place on the leaderboard. We enjoyed coming to school in our number themed non-uniform too. Not to mention engaging in the odd quiz and puzzle along the way. A fun day for a very worthy cause.

In geography so far this term we have developed further our locational knowledge by locating the land covered by Ancient Egypt on modern maps. We have considered how the location would have impacted on natural resources and every day life. We have also looked at the physical and human geography of the area.
We have been going fraction crazy for the past few weeks. We have been learning how to add and subtract fractions with different denominators by finding the lowest common multiple. We have been multiplying and dividing fractions giving answers in their simplest form (by finding the highest common factor). We are pretty good at converting improper fractions to mixed numbers and vice versa.
Literacy - We have built on our existing knowledge of figurative language to develop further our setting writing. we have been looking at strategies to build tension, mood and how to use the weather and colour to set the tone of a piece. We have been developing our comparison and summary skills in reading comprehension. For our grammar work we have been learning and consolidating our knowledge of clauses, phrases and conjunctions. Wombwell Park Street is a member of the Yorkshire and Humberside Shakespeare hub. Each year we focus on one of the bards many plays and engage with creative partners to develop themes. This year the children learnt about the twists and turns of 'A Midsummer Nights Dream'. The children got to grips with the characters and plot brilliantly. We were lucky enough to engage in a workshop with Lucy Burns a visual artist. She supported the children to use collage and print making skills to explore the forest and town of Athens. The work the children produced will form part of an installation, which will be presented in the central library in town. As soon as we have dates or further information we will let you know. Team LL and AF were really disappointed when they couldn't show off their dance and artwork at the Bright Nights Festival in the town centre. Unfortunately, the children's parade was called off due to bad weather. With true Park Street resilience we invited the Fusion team and parents along to do our own parade on the school grounds instead. An amazing day was had by all our Y6 pupils, when we attended our visit to Crucial Crew. Pupils engaged in a range of scenarios and workshops organised by South Yorkshire Police, Fire Brigade and Transport. Children learnt about: youth justice and magistrates court, criminal responsibility, child criminal exploitation, hate crime, knife crime, road safety, anti-social behaviour, fire safety and water safety. Some very important lessons learnt. Our amazing Y6 team were a credit to school - well done.
Children worked in groups to research and explore many images of natural disasters. They applied a wide range of collage, painting, 3d modelling and textile skills to develop their natural disaster models. Children explored and applied skills learnt to convey texture, colour, form and shade. |
