Team CB Blog
The beautiful thing about learning is that it has no parameters. Everyone can teach someone something they did not know.
As we returned from our half term holidays, it was straight back into learning in Team CB! This week marked a shift in our history topic, where the Anglo Saxon period came to a close and we entered the new era of the Vikings.
To kick start our learning we were fortunate enough to take a class trip to York (Jorvik) and discover bundles of information about why the Vikings invaded and also take the chance to discover what the Vikings left behind.
Our trip comprised of two sections, the Jorvik Centre and Dig. At the Jorvik Centre the class were able to take a short simulator ride around the centre to see what life actually looked like in Viking times. The children were more than impressed (well that was at least until they caught a whiff of what it smelt like in the Viking era)! They were then able to explore and draw further understanding about Viking Britain through listening to various expert speakers and admiring artefacts that had been displayed.
The second part of the trip was a visit to Dig! Dig offered the class a hands on practical experience, where they had to take part in 4 excavations to locate and retrieve various Viking artefacts. Each excavation site was replicated to illustrate actual finds in and around York. The class also all took part in a Battle Tactics workshop, where they learned about Viking weaponary and fighting techniques. They made fearsome warriors!
After a busy first week back, the class are all enthusiastic to get under way with their new Viking topic! We hope you will check back soon, meanwhile, check out our pictures from the trip!
