The beautiful thing about learning is that it has no parameters. Everyone can teach someone something they did not know.
As Spring Term draws to a close, I am once again left looking back over the space of the last 10 teaching weeks with fond memories. Our children are continuing to grow and become independent, resilient, persevering young individuals who appreciate their learning opportunities. Heading into the Summer Term, I can only imagine how they will continue to thrive and I am so excited to be a part of that!
This week marked the end of our History based learning topic. To celebrate, we held our very own Viking Day. The children delved into different parts of Viking history throughout the day. To start us off, we each crafted a Viking sword which would be used in the final stages of the day (more about that later). We then dipped in to a spot of Viking cuisine, where we cooked traditional Viking dishes. The class were largely not keen on the Berry pancake, which featured only salt and no added sugar. They did however, really enjoy their Honey and Oat Cakes which were far sweeter.
Once the morning had flashed before our eyes, we headed into the afternoon and straight to court! Team CB had to give evidence in court as to whether or not King Ethelred the Unready should have paid the Vikings Danegeld. To help us make our decision we inferred various points about the Vikings from a series of artefacts. This informed our opinion which was supported using Point, Evidence, Explanation (PEE). Once we had testified, we entered the final part of our Viking Day. Here, we learned all about how the Viking era drew to a close. Armed with our shields and swords, the class headed out to the school field, where we split into Normans and Vikings and recreated the Battle of Hastings. It was truly the most fantastic way to draw our topic to a close! I can't wait to see what we get up to in our new Science topic next term all around Space!
