Team CB Blog
The beautiful thing about learning is that it has no parameters. Everyone can teach someone something they did not know.
After a spate of bad weather last week, it was lovely to see Team CB reunited again on Monday. What I have been most impressed with over the course of this week, is the children’s attitudes towards learning after an unexpected series of events last week.
We dove straight back in to our work around fractions this week and the class took on their next challenge of exploring and identifying equivalent fractions. We built up our knowledge over the course of the week, starting with lots of practical application and folding to find fractions of equal value. We then moved on to using fraction walls as pictorial support before leading into using times tables to generate equivalent fractions in an abstract format. The children were super right from the start and showed a really good understanding of what a fraction means. To push on further in our learning, we then explored fractions as wholes and parts where some fractions were improper. This enabled the children to become accustomed with mixed fractions for the first time and see how these are calculated.
Elsewhere in our learning, in Literacy we continued with our new topic of Norse Myths. We explored different settings and characters, generating our own incredibly powerful description. The children were all excellent at using devices such as expanded noun phrases, similes and metaphors to enhance the senses of the reader. We then used the plot structure of a myth to plan our own ready for writing. We can’t wait for you all to hear the story of Odin and the Giants of Jotunheim!
In our topic, we have been busy exploring how Vikings came live in Britain, through understanding the invasion. To help us we looked in close detail at the Viking Longship. We studied its purpose, its design and what this told us about the Viking mannerisms.
