This week in Team CB we have been looking at free-verse poetry. As part of our topic-based learning about the Vikings, we explored life in a Viking village before creating our own poems all around this. To understand different types of poetry we compared a free-verse and narrative poem and then evaluated them, looking for features which would form our Success Criteria. Following this, we then used the criteria to inform the skills we needed. We spent time looking at word classes, as well as investigating SPAMO as a poetic device. To structure our poem, we looked closely at syntax and how this affected meaning. Once our poems were drafted, edited and up levelled we then performed them as part of a class piece.
In Maths, the class have been really busy furthering their understanding of decimals. The class worked hard to compare, order and round decimal numbers. We applied our existing knowledge to use previously taught methods to support us in doing this! Next week, we will be using this to support our understanding as we venture into decimals linked to money. The class will be participating in hands on learning where they will have to solve money problems in real-life contexts.
Elsewhere, in Science the class have been busy exploring types of diet in living things. They have been learning new scientific vocabulary including; herbivore, omnivore and carnivore as well as what these terms mean. We will use this to lead into understanding food chains and how these support the sustainability of species.
In topic this week we investigated the Danegeld and the children's thoughts on whether or not it should have been paid. Looking at Rudyard Kipling's poem as well as objects, we inferred different views on whether it should or should not have been paid. To support our opinions, we practiced using our Point, Evidence, Explanation approach to develop our answers.
Check back next week to see what we have been up to in the final week of Spring term!
