Amongst many other things, this week has been Enterprise Week across Park Street. Each class has been given a class budget of £20 and has had to create items to sell. The whole school have worked incredibly hard but I am especially proud of Team CB who made the most beautifully decorated wooden baubles for the Christmas tree. Bravo!
Meanwhile in Maths we have been working hard revising key skills and in our Literacy we have completed our recount and published a best version.
When our afternoons have not been taking up with exploring our enterprising minds, we have been busy finishing off our 2019 calendars as well as preparing for our enterprise sale. As always, Ukelele was in full swing on Wednesday afternoon and the class sounded delightful.
Be sure to check in with us next week, when we will be creating our own playscript in Literacy ahead of our Christmas Assembly performance.
The next two weeks will have an assessment focus for Team CB, in order to assess and reflect on the progress the class has made so far. As part of this, this week the theme for our writing assessment has been set. The children are writing a Christmas diary, with the intention of capturing their thoughts and feelings of what Christmas was like as a child. The class will then create a class diary, of which they will look back on over the coming years. We have had many wonderful discussions around what Christmas looks like for different children, and the class are eager to put pen to paper and write their own account.
Elsewhere, in Maths this week we have been focusing on multiplication. We have began exploring the column method for multiplication and how this can support us in solving more complex problems.
Our art focus this week has been creating our calendars for the upcoming year. We worked really hard to consider different seasons and how we could represent this, to form the background for our scene. We will be collaging next week.
Check back for a brief update next week!
As always the children have shown a great attitude towards learning this week. In our Maths this week we have been busy beginning a new topic based around multiplication. The class have been hard at work trying to ensure that they understand how to multiply and divide by 10, 100, 1000 as well as getting to grips with some new vocabulary linked to multiplication. We have enjoyed completing many practical activities to help us understand what exactly we mean!
In Literacy, the class took on a challenge and had to write a series of instructions for how to make an authentic Italian pizza, linking with our topic of Europe. The class were fantastic at exploring WAGOLLS and identifying features and functions of instructional writing. Next, the class responded to verbal instructions for how to make a pizza and create their own slices, before using this session as the basis for their writing. If you are in search of a tasty treat, our recipes are the perfect idea for creating a quick and easy meal.
Elsewhere this week, we have begun creating our Christmas calendars in art, looking at seasonal colours to show the changing times of the year. We have also been busy learning about the features of river systems and using this to support our understanding of the water cycle.
To mark the end of the week, the children in true Park Street form gave their best efforts to help raise money for Children In Need. What a fantastic week!
What a week it has been! Our class came back raring to go and have made a great dent in learning so far. This week we have been focusing on solidifying our understanding of subtraction through worded problems and open ended tasks. The children have really got to grips with this and have shown great progress over the last few weeks, in applying their skills to problem solve.
In Literacy, we have been busy working to develop our understanding of the apostrophe and how this can be used for both omission and possession. The class have completed tasks to a high standard and it is now becoming more evident in their writing.
Check back next week for an update on all we have been up to!
