What a busy first full week it has been for our Persevering Pioneers. This week the children have really shown their maturity as they have settled in to Year 4 life and all that it encompasses.
In our Maths this week we have tackled place value, ensuring we used lots of concrete and pictorial representations to help us with our learning, before beginning to move to abstract forms. We have investigated the value of different digits, as well as comparing and ordering numbers up to (and in some cases beyond) 1000. The class have shown a great awareness of different Maths Mastery concepts and their application has been sound. Well done Team CB - this is wonderful to see! Elsewhere in our learning, we have been challenged to create our own fairytale this week. In order to help our Year 1's, Team CB have investigated a range of traditional tales and started to unpick the structure and features of this genre. Our research informed the planning tools we created, before we worked as a class to create our own shared plan. Next week we can't wait to grab our pens and pencils and start putting pen to paper as we allow our imagination to run free as we retell the story of Emyula and the Abandoned Treehouse. Be sure to check back for an update! As though that was not enough, we have also started our Science unit for this half term, based all around States of Matter. The class loved recreating the life of particle as they made solids, liquids and gases! We have also began our journey around Europe this week. The class discussed in transition that they would like to create a patchwork map of Europe to kick start their topic, and we did just that! The class rebuilt Europe and then explored the different capital cities through using maps and grid references. As you can see, Team CB are thriving in their learning at the moment and will be full of new stories to share next week! See you soon.
