In the blink of an eye it is once again Friday and our children are reflecting on all the wonderful learning they have achieved so far this week. In our Maths this week, we have started to explore a new unit of addition. The children have worked practically with counters to explore what addition looks like in physical form and are beginning to make links to the formal written method. The class have been working specifically on adding up to 4 digit numbers without breaking the boundary this week and have been highly successful in doing this. Next week, we will extend this learning further, as the children consider what happens when digits break the boundary of 10.
Literacy has also seen the children begin their new unit of writing focusing on the skills of persuasion. In case you were wondering, Mrs Clarke has recently been to Spain and noticed that tourism needed a boost. With this in mind, Team CB suggested we could write a travel brochure to promote Spain and encourage tourism. This week the class have worked incredibly hard researching Spain and all it has to offer. They have then identified the features and functions of a travel brochure to inform their own Success Criteria for writing. To help embed persuasive techniques the children have used shared and guided practice to then generate ambitious language they may wish to include in their writing next week. Be sure to find out how we are getting on.
As part of our Science this week, the class have been investigating the weight of gas through a fizzy pop experiment. They have thought carefully about dependent and independent variables and how the amount of bubbles relates to the amount of gas present. As week 6 grows closer I am going to consider all the wonderful learning opportunities that we can explore next week!
