Did someone say what is measurement? Well, Team CB would certainly know the answer to that this week. They have been busy in the classroom exploring the concept of length and measurement. The class have been working hard to develop their understanding of how to measure accurately and the conversion between different units of measurement to aid in their practical learning. Once the class had developed their understanding of this, we then utilised these skills to enable us to accurately calculate the perimeter of various shapes. We recognised what the perimeter is and how we can calculate it, before moving on to applying our problem solving skills to calculate missing measurements. Next week, we will be looking at the relationship between area and perimeter.
In Literacy, we have been visited by King Vortigern, the King of England prior to the Anglo Saxon invasion, An interactive message was left on our Smartboard asking us to travel back in time with him and alert the British citizens of the impending attack. As such, as a class we established we could create a newspaper to warn people as news reporting was very different back then to the communication channels we now have. With that in mind, the class explored what a good newspaper article looks like, establishing features and functions, before working hard to embed grammatical devices which would support our writing. Head back next week as we begin to write, edit, up level and publish our news!
During our topic, this week we explored how the Anglo Saxons lived and their decision to abandon Roman towns and create their own new settlements. The children have been tasked with replicating a part of an Anglo Saxon village for their homework.
As part of our Science, this week we have used Carroll and Venn diagrams to begin to sort livings things based on similarities and differences in a range of characteristics. As you can clearly see, we have worked our socks off this week!
Check back to see what we are up to next week!
