As the children came bursting through the doors, out of the cold weather outside it certainly didn't quite feel like Spring Term just yet. However. in true Team CB style, the class had a spring in their step and came fully prepared for new learning that awaited them.
In Maths, we have begun a new topic of division where the children have been practically exploring the concept before moving towards beginning to understand the formal written method of division. We used resources such as counters to help us understand how values can be carried from one column to the next. The class were wizards by the end of it!
In our Literacy this week we have received incredible news. The class have been exploring a news article informing them of an Anglo Saxon coin discovery that will re-write history as it shows an alliance between King Alfred the Great and King Ceolwulf II. As a class we were challenged with retelling the article in the form of a news broadcast. We worked hard to identify key information. before discovering the format of a news broadcast. As a class, we then identified a success criteria and used this to inform our writing. Next week we will begin to write the script.
Elsewhere, we have begun our new topic of Anglo Saxons. The children were tasked with being able to identify different place names that showed evidence of the Anglo Saxons settling in Britain before re-writing these as Anglo Saxon runes. Check back next week for more updates.
