With the upcoming General Election, this week Team CB began to explore the concept of discussion and debate. Over the course of the week we were challenged to argue for or against a range of different statements.
We initially began by simply deciding what our opinion was and using the language of argument, e.g. I think that or in my opinion. From this, we then began to explain our viewpoints. We discussed why we thought what we did, as well as listening to the opposing views and reasons. Impressively enough, some of the class were swayed by what they had heard from the opposing team and changed their outlook. As the week drew to a close, we started to explore texts as a source of evidence to support viewpoints and further strengthen our arguments. We debated whether or not zoos should be banned and were all able to provide clear, concise and well structured arguments for this.
VERDICT: Team CB eventually came to the majority decision that zoos should be closed. Do you agree? Can you convince the majority of the class otherwise?
