This week we have worked really hard in our writing to compose a letter to Mrs Lawson asking her to reconsider her (pretend) proposal to dig up the nature reserve and replace it with an additional car park.
The class firstly decided whether or not they were for or against this idea and then constructed three main points to argue their case, complete with their explanations and evidence. However, we decided that although this would give Mrs Lawson some food for thought, we wanted to really make her change her point of view. As such, we looked closely at the features of persuasive writing and the different persuasive devices we could use.
Here is an extract from one of the letters we wrote:
"Another point to consider prior to making your decision, is how destroying the nature reserve will impact on the children's education. How could you possibly live with knowledge of being responsible for ruining learning opportunities? I have personally experienced the pleasure of learning how to indulge my senses in the nature reserve. The school requests all children to follow the golden rules, however at least half of them will be broken if the nature reserve is destroyed!"
