Well, that has certainly been the question on Team CB's lips this week! As part of our topic learning we have considered whether or not King Ethelred the Unready should have paid the Danegeld as a protection payment to keep the Vikings away.
To help us form our opinions we took part in an evidence hunt where we searched for evidence from artefacts and writing extracts to argue FOR or AGAINST the point. Needless to say, the evidence did not sway one way, in fact some of the evidence allowed us to infer multiple meanings, some of which would encourage the payment of the Danegeld and some which would not.
In order to articulate our points clearly we used the process of POINT, EVIDENCE, EXPLANATION. Why you ask? Well, it's quite simple really. As in all good balanced arguments we needed to take this to someone who could make a final ruling, so off we headed to the High Court to argue on the payment of Danegeld.
Team CB made fantastic witnesses and clearly provided their opinion supported by an explanation and backed up with evidence. It certainly left the judge in a predicament as to which way to rule! However, after much deliberation, the rule was that...
THE DANEGELD SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN PAID!
