Sammy the Spider needs to build a new web in a safe place. He would like you to create a small minibeast hotel in your garden. Sammy likes dark and quiet places to live in so think carefully about where you can build your hotel. You can use stones, pebbles, twigs, logs, plant pots, bricks and anything else you can find. (There are lots of different ideas online to get you started.)
Keep checking back over the next few weeks to see if Sammy and his friends have come to stay!

Sir Linkalot (which is a fantastic app to support spelling) is kindly giving all parents and schools free access during lockdown to enable children of all ages (4 years old upwards) to have Sir Linkalot Time at home. There will be a daily midweek 30 minute show online, starting this Thursday at 2 o'clock, on Sir Linkalot's Facebook page and Youtube channel, featuring Countdown's Susie Dent. There are two obvious benefits in using this whilst children are currently learning form home: one, it would most definitely raise their literacy levels and, two, it would make life a whole lot easier for you! It is not solely for spelling, however. It's covering the whole of the technical requirements of literacy, i.e vocabulary, homophones, punctuation, grammar, rules and patterns. So, it very much applies to older children as well.
To access the content, you can do this in one of two ways, either downloading via the App Store or on a laptop/PC. Please note, once you have downloaded the app from the App Store (small problem with Androids at the mo), tap on the log icon (for 'Log in') at the top right. You can also view it on a laptop or PC. Type in the browser itself (not a search engine)... app.sirlinkalot.org and follow the above instructions (the log icon is for 'log in'). Further information of log on details will be sent out electronically. Keep up your super spelling :) Over the year we have had lots of fun in our Investigation area! We have learnt about floating and sinking, magnets, melting and lots of other scientific concepts.
The two websites below have some great investigation activities you can complete at home. I particularly like number 10 on the list, the DIY robot hand and it is really good to help develop motor skills too! https://famly.co/blog/inspiration/10-eyfs-science-experiments/ Marvin and Milo explore scientific concepts in really fun, short experiments and activities. You can use the drop down tab to search for different ones and they only require some things you may have around the house. The explanations may be a bit tricky but it will help your child to experience the awe and wonder of science at home! http://www.physics.org/marvinandmilo.asp There are so many exciting opportunities to learn by using Lego, Duplo and other construction resources. The construction area is no doubt one of the favourite areas of our classroom! STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths and the STEM Laboratory have produced lots of exciting Lego activities for you to try, and they can be easily adapted suit your child. Please find the activities and challenges here

https://charanga.com/site/ Your username and password are on the letter that was sent home during the last week of school. Our topic is "Watch it Grow!" and there are so many amazing activities you can do outdoors from exploring to being creative! The blog below has some lovely ideas for your child's learning in this beautiful spring sunshine!
https://www.hyggeintheearlyyears.co.uk/blog The Hungry Caterpillar loves to eat and gets through so much food! Write a list of all the food that he eats or you could write a shopping list for him. You may want to write a list of your favourite foods too! You can use the Read Write Inc phonics pictures I added to your pack to help you write the sounds that you can hear in each word. The Very Hungry Caterpillar turns from an egg to a caterpillar, then creates a chrysalis and turns into a beautiful butterfly! Write about the life cycle of a butterfly by drawing the four pictures first, then write a sentence about each stage of its life next to it.
Remember to say the sentence over and over until you remember it and count the words on your fingers. When you have finished read the sentence by pointing to each word and checking it. This week we are learning about halving and sharing fairly. The Numberjacks video below has some examples of sharing.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WeXTDYS3E-4 In the video the paper plates on the beach are similar to the "part part whole" model in your packs I sent home. Practise sharing different items into two equal groups using the worksheet I gave you. You could share food with the Hungry Caterpillar and see how many you started with and how many you each have after you have shared them fairly. You could double the number of items in your group to see how many the Hungry Caterpillar started with. Welcome back Fabulous Flamingos! I hope you have all had a lovely Easter holiday and spent lots of time doing many exciting activities with your family! I would love to see what you have been up to so please email me using the details in the post below.
This half term our topic is "Watch It Grow!" This week our topic is "Minibeasts" and our story is The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. If you haven't got the story book at home here is the link to the story online https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75NQK-Sm1YY This week if possible I would like you to go into your garden and go on a minibeast hunt! Alternatively you could have a hunt for them during your daily walk. Follow the link below to the Woodland Trust website where you find lots of resources to help you on your hunt. There are fact sheets and spotter sheets and activities including making a minibeast palace! http://treetoolsforschools.org.uk/activitymenu/?cat=minibeasts You could draw pictures and create a minibeast book for your family. You can use the book together to see what you can find another day! Don't forget that some minibeasts like to live in cool, damp places so you may need to search under pots or logs and don't forget your spade! Whilst coronavirus is infectious to children it is rarely serious. If your child is unwell it is likely to be a non-coronavirus illness, rather than coronavirus itself. Whilst it is extremely important to follow Government advice to stay at home during this period, it can be confusing to know what to do when your child is unwell or injured. Remember that NHS 111, GPs and hospitals are still providing the same safe care that they have always done. Here is some advice to help:
