Team CH have enjoyed exploring Commutative law further by telling number stories using cubes and write four equations that represent that same story.

Today in Maths Team CH have been talking about commutative law. In order to understand this law, we used transparent cups so we could see how are addends can be moved in order to represent an alternative expression. Today, Team CH have been looking at pictorial contexts where the whole group is divided into two. We started by writing the two parts we could see then writing add in-between the two parts. This is known as an expression. Next, we practiced using cubes to show an expression and talked a lot about parts that we can be added together are called addends. Finally, we explored how addends can be moved around and continued to write expressions. Team CH had a frightful shock this morning! The wild things had paid our classroom a visit. There were muddy foot prints, upside down chairs and tables; and even jumpers hanging from the celling! We followed the trail of foot prints and discovered a book hidden away “Where the wild things are” Written by Maurice Sendak. We really enjoyed reading this story and talked about the characters and the problem. Finally, we made our own wild things to scare the other wild things away from our school! |
