Team CH love dressing up and celebrating world book day, we produced some beautiful writing about our chosen character. We spent time with Team AF reading our favorite stories.
In our latest lesson, Team CH explored the power of coordinating conjunctions! By using words like and, or, and but, we learned how to connect simple sentences and turn them into compound ones. This skill helped us better understand how to add depth and variety to our writing.
We also connected our lesson to the text A World Full of Plastic by Neal Layton. As we analysed the book, we noticed how Layton uses similar techniques to make his writing more engaging and dynamic. It was a great way to apply what we’ve learned to real-world examples! In this lesson, children learned to identify when objects can and cannot be grouped equally. They explored how sometimes a number of objects can be divided into equal-sized groups, and other times the groups are of unequal sizes. The lesson emphasized that when the total number of objects is not a multiple of the group size, equal groups cannot be formed. Through discussion and examples, children understood how to recognize when some objects or children are left out of a group due to this imbalance.
This week, the children investigated what soil is made up of by exploring its different layers. They spent time outside gathering soil samples from various areas and closely examined the topsoil, observing its texture, color, and the types of materials it contained. They also dug deeper to explore the subsoil, discussing its characteristics and how it differs from the topsoil. Through hands-on investigation, the children learned about the components of soil, such as minerals, organic matter, and living organisms, and how these elements play a role in plant growth
This week, our Year 3 mathematicians have been exploring the positions of the addends and the sum in column addition. After this, the children used column addition to solve problems involving two-digit numbers, aiming to correctly arrange the numbers using place value.
we’ve had an amazing time celebrating NSPCC Number Day! From fun counting challenges to interactive number games, the whole day has been filled with exciting activities. We've worked on everything from estimating, counting in different ways, to solving tricky number puzzles! It’s been a wonderful way to get creative with math while supporting an important cause. A big thank you to everyone who participated and made the day so special!
Today in PE, we focused on the skills of attacking and defending in a game. Our main objectives were to understand the roles of both attackers and defenders, and learn how to create and deny space on the field. Through a series of activities, we practiced dodging to create space and marking opponents to limit their movement, improving both our offensive and defensive strategies.
We used a variety of equipment like cones, rugby balls, tag rugby belts, and large balls to make the games more dynamic and fun. The students demonstrated great effort in understanding the importance of possession, dodging, and marking, which will help in future games. It was a great session where everyone showed improvement in their teamwork and tactical skills! "Team CH performed the song 'The Sunshine Song.' We used our glockenspiel to play the notes C, D, E, and F."
