Today Team CH looked at what bones are, understanding that they are the hard structures inside living organisms that provide support and protect vital organs. We also explored what fossils are—remains or imprints of ancient life that have been preserved in rock. We discussed the difference between bones and fossils, noting that while bones are part of a living organism, fossils are the preserved evidence of past life. Finally, we examined the fascinating fossilization process, learning how bones and other hard parts of organisms can turn into fossils through burial, mineralization, and pressure over millions of years.

"Thank you to the wonderful Miss Oveton! Team CH had a fantastic experience today. We had so much fun learning the rules of dodgeball and developing our gross motor skills as we dodged, ducked, and dived our way to becoming star players!" Today, we wrapped up our learning about Brazil with a fun, creative activity—designing our own tie-dye t-shirts! As we tied, dyed, and admired the vibrant colours, we reflected on the lively celebrations of Brazil, especially the famous Carnival. Just like our t-shirts, Brazil is a country full of energy, music, and colourful traditions. From samba rhythms to dazzling parades, the spirit of Carnival shows how important joy and unity are to Brazilian culture. We’ve had a blast exploring Brazil’s festivities. In today’s numeracy lesson, we explored the relationship between 5 and 10, learning that 5 is half of 10 and 10 is double of 5. We practiced identifying multiples of 5 and 10 and counting in those multiples. To make it more fun, we played a game where the girls shouted "pinable" for multiples of 5, and the boys shouted for multiples of 10. This helped us figure out which numbers were multiples of both 5 and 10, like 10, 20, and 30, reinforcing the idea of common multiples.
In this lesson, students will explore the creative side of programming by designing, creating, and testing a mat for a floor robot. They'll learn that programming isn't just about code—it's also about the artwork and design that support the project. By customising their mats to fit different themes, students will develop a deeper understanding of how design choices impact functionality. They'll also practice testing their creations to ensure usability. Through this, students will connect art and code in an interactive, hands-on way.
"Team CH has been focusing on improving our catching and throwing skills in PE! We’ve been practicing our technique to make sure we’re using the right posture, grip, and timing. By working on these fundamentals, we’re getting better at controlling the ball and making accurate throws. It’s been fun challenging ourselves to improve, and we’re seeing great progress in both our individual and team performance!"
"Team CH has been diving deeper into rocks and their properties! After learning about sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous rocks, we followed up with an exciting experiment to investigate if a rock is permeable or impermeable. By testing different types of rocks, we observed how some allowed water to pass through while others didn’t. This hands-on activity helped us understand how rock formation affects their ability to absorb or block water, and we had fun discovering more about the natural world!"
Today team CH began to act out the rock cycle. First children lined up to show the squashed layers of materials that form sedimentary rocks. Next we travelled deeper and sat on the floor, we covered ourselves with a blanket to show the heat being added and changed our forms into metamorphic rocks. Finally we wiggled to show the process of magma slowly cooling into igneous rocks.
After this we gathered some rocks to prepare for our next lesson. Where we will work scientifically to compare the rocks. Team CH has been practicing how to use apostrophes to show possession! We’ve been using stem sentences to help us understand when and how to add apostrophes. For example:
Team CH has been busy exploring the fascinating world of the Beaker People! We’ve researched their history, examined the changes in the Stone Age, and delved into the unique styles of Beaker pottery. After learning about their techniques and designs, we got creative and each of us designed and crafted our own pottery pieces. It’s been an exciting journey from investigation to creation!
