Team CH researched what a mountain is, wrote a definition, drew and compared a mountain and a hill, and labelled key features including the summit, slope and valley. They then used an atlas to locate the Seven Summits.

Team CH have been solving problems using multiples of four. We spent time singing our four times tables, identifying our landmark facts, and finally using sticks to represent groups of four.
Team CH explored contractions by squashing two words together to make a new word. They used the “apostrophe monster” to show where letters were removed, then matched each contracted word to the original squashed words they had made.
Over the past few weeks, Team CH have loved exploring The Koala Who Could by Rachel Bright. We began by getting to know Kevin the Koala, discussing his personality, feelings, and how he changes throughout the story. Using Kevin’s adventures for inspiration, the children learned how to use a range of sentence types — statements, questions, commands, and exclamations — to make their writing more engaging and exciting to read. We explored how different sentences can be used to show emotion and move the story forward, before planning and creating our very own comic strips about Kevin and his friends. Children worked hard to include accurate punctuation, clear sequencing, and interesting vocabulary to bring their stories to life.
Alongside this, we have been learning how to write detailed setting descriptions. We revisited The Koala Who Could to explore how the author describes the Australian outback, using our senses to imagine what we might see, hear and feel in Kevin’s world. The children practised using expanded noun phrases and subordinating conjunctions to add detail and extend their ideas. Their final pieces painted a clear picture of Kevin’s journey down his tree, across the forest floor and towards the warm glow of the campfire. To celebrate all their hard work, Team CH proudly shared their finished comic strips with their chosen audience — Team AC — reading aloud with confidence, enthusiasm and expression. This showcased fantastic oracy skills and a real pride in their writing. Team CH should feel incredibly proud of the progress they have made as both writers and performers. Today the children read the story My Body Is an Amazing Body. After the story, they led a thoughtful group discussion about the different ways we can look after our amazing bodies. Together, the children shared ideas such as exercising, spending time outdoors, listening to how our bodies feel, and making healthy choices.
The children also explored the idea that bodies come in all shapes and sizes — tall bodies, short bodies, thin bodies, and wide bodies — and that every body is amazing. To finish, the children created a colourful poster filled with facts about their own amazing bodies and the ways they can care for them. This helped reinforce a positive understanding of self-care, body awareness, and respect for differences. Children continued developing their place value understanding using place value arrows to explore how each digit changes the value of a number. We worked on Unit 4, adding 2-digit and 3-digit numbers that bridge and do not bridge ten. Children used place value counters to partition the numbers, add the ones, then add the tens. They also used Brainingcamp on the iPads to deepen their understanding through interactive models.
This half term, Team CH have been busy developing our skills in Tag Rugby and Gymnastics. During our outdoor PE sessions, we have focused on controlling and passing the ball, dodging, tagging, and working as a team to move into space. We have also been learning the key rules of tag rugby and applying these skills in small-sided games.
In our Gymnastics sessions, we have been working with apparatus, focusing on entrances, exits, and balances. We have practised rehearsing shapes on the apparatus and performing shapes in flight. Pupils have also been exploring a range of rolling techniques and incorporating these into short sequences and performances. In Geography, the children have been locating the UK on maps and atlases, with a particular focus on Scotland. They have explored the site of Skara Brae, thinking carefully about its geographical location and how the landscape may have influenced the lives of people in the past. The children have also begun learning about the rock cycle, discovering how different types of rocks are formed and how they shape the land. We have linked this to the wider study of physical geography, considering rivers, mountains, and other features both locally and around the world. The use of maps, atlases, and multimedia resources has supported the children in developing their skills in locating and exploring different landscapes.
This week we revisited two key areas of our Spanish learning: counting to ten and naming colours. The children practised saying the numbers from 1–10 with accurate pronunciation and joined in with oral counting activities to build confidence. We then recapped familiar colours in Spanish, using matching tasks and quick-fire games to help children recall and use the vocabulary.
In today’s lesson, we explored how our body’s response system helps to keep us safe. We learned about key parts of the brain, including the amygdala, hippocampus, and frontal cortex, and discussed the important roles they play in processing emotions, memories, and decision-making. Children discovered how the brain sends signals that release stress hormones when we sense danger, leading to emotional and physical reactions. We linked this to how our behaviour changes when we feel worried, scared, or calm, recognising how our body’s natural responses are designed to protect us
