Caring for a Pet

This week, our "Amazing Animals" theme has moved onto learning about pets. We started the day by talking about pets and how these are animals which need us to care for them. The children knew some animals which were suitable for pets and we learnt how to sign some of them using Makaton. Then we had a circle time where the children told us about the pets they have at home and some children had photographs to share too. The children spoke clearly and in sentences and the others were excellent at listening to their friends. 
We have enhanced our provision with different soft toy pets and equipment so the children can role play looking after pets in their play. Our book of the week is "Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy" and we will be reading lots of other story and non-fiction books about pets across the week too.
