Today was NSPCC Numbers Day and the children at Park Street were invited to wear clothing with numbers on. We had a great mixture of football shirts and other numbered tops as well as some amazing home made number outfits! Throughout the session, we engaged in lots of different number based activities including:
- singing lots of number songs while showing amounts on our fingers. - building number blocks towers to show how many boys and girls in nursery and then comparing them. - hunting for hidden coins around nursery and then sorting them into 1p and 2 p coins. We then counted how many of each and built coin towers, - going on a number hunt around school and outside- we found numbers everywhere! - playing different number games in the nature reserve. The children had a really fun day and learnt lots about numbers!

Our new learning focus for this week is growing flowers and we are focusing on the book "The TIny Seed" by Eric Carle. We have read the book and talked about how flowers grow from a seed. We have also been talking about what plants need to grow and the children were able to talk about sunlight and water.
In our provision this week, we have been artists! We have been creating paintings and drawings of flowers by looking very carefully and trying to draw what we can see, thinking about the colours and the shapes. The children have done a great job of painting tulips and drawing spray carnations. We have also used flower petals to create our own collage pictures which was a very popular activity. Here are some photos of us engaged in our learning this week so far: For our baking activity today, we made chocolate rice crispy buns. Our learning focus was around melting and noticing changes. We looked carefully at the chocolate and the children noticed that it was hard. We talked about what we needed to do to the chocolate to make our buns and some children knew we needed to melt it and suggested using the microwave. Once the chocolate was melted, the children described it using these words: runny, dripping, sticky and wet. Finally the chocolate was mixed with the rice crispies and the mixture was carefully spooned into bun cases. At home time the children noticed that the chocolate had changed again- what a lot of Scientific thinking!
We have had an exciting delivery of caterpillars arrive at nursery. When they arrived, they were so tiny! We are enjoying observing them carefully to see how they grow and change. We have noticed that they are getting much bigger already!
We are learning about the life cycle and we hope we will have some butterflies soon. Please look out for up-dates. |
