This week we have been learning all about Diwali. We listened carefully to the story of Rama and Sita and were able to join in with key parts of story by using actions that we had learnt at our Diwali Dance Workshop from before the holidays and we learnt how Hindu’s celebrate Diwali.
Team EO had a food tasting session where we tried 5 different types of food that Hindu’s may eat to celebrate Diwali. We tried: garlic chicken, naan bread, poppadum’s with mango chutney and pilau rice. The children discussed what the food was like as they tried and compared them to foods they were more familiar with! The children have had the opportunity to print Rangoli patterns in the painting area, make Diva lamps in the creative area and to colour and write Diwali cards to send to friends. Our funky finger activity this week was to use the wooden end of a paint brush to make patterns in the glitter! We have also learnt about Bonfire Night – how it came about and how it is celebrated. Children had the opportunity to create firework pictures and write "I can see" sentences about what they see on Bonfire Night. We also spoke about to stay safe when watching fireworks and holding sparklers.
