Design Technology -Circuits

During DT we investigated how a circuit works and the key components. We can now indenify key components of a circuit, we can explain how a circuit works and we can understand what electricitiy is.
We had to draw and label a diagram to show different circuits. We had to indentify and label a switch, battery and light bulbs. We finished by creating a statement about how electricity is created.

Music - Year 5's

During music the year 5's have been learning new skills on the glockenspiel. 
We have learnt how to play the glockenspiel correctly, how to read and play a variety of tunes and songs using a lettered score, how to perform in two, three and four parts, about the percussion family, tuned and untuned instruments and a range of musical terms and signs.
We have focusing on a piece of jazz music.

We used all our skills we have learnt over the last few weeks. We created a Bollywood routine and absolutely smashed it, Our lines and movement were on point and in time with the music. We are brilliant performers, what do you think?

Anti Bullying Odd socks day

Celebrating Odd Socks Day is easy and fun. 
We Wear Mismatched Socks: Choose two socks that don’t match in color, pattern, or style and proudly wear them throughout the day. Educate and Raise Awareness: Use the day as an opportunity to educate others about the importance of embracing diversity and promoting inclusion. Start Conversations: Engage in conversations about the value of being unique and how it contributes to a richer and more vibrant society. Support Anti-Bullying Initiatives: Consider making a donation to or getting involved with organizations that work to prevent bullying and discrimination. Encourage Others: Encourage your friends, family, and colleagues to participate in Odd Socks Day and share their mismatched sock photos on social media.

We had a very special visitor in Team JD to talk about anti bullying, friendships and the value of talking and not holding your feelings in.
we had chance to talk about who they need to speak to if the feel like they are not valued by their friends. We then created stars with random act of kindness on them. We wrote some lovely acts on our stars. We will display them in our classroom.

Remembrance  Day

In Team JD we spent time on Friday making our own Poppies, having time to think about the soldiers that have fallen for us to have a future of freedom and values.
Then yesterday on Monday 11th November 2024. We spent the morning focusing on the Remembrance day and the reasons why we emphasis the importance of this day.
We created a poster on the important key facts, we watched the remembrance Sunday at the Cenotaph in London. Then we had a minute silence at 11am throughout school.

What is the weather?

We have been learning about the weather, Spain and the cities, towns and compass directions in Spanish. We have found some aspects tricky. However, we have really enjoyed it and we are always eager to do our best. We love to share Spanish we have learnt with our teachers and friends.

Literacy - Cinquain poem

iThe week before half term we focused on Cinquain poems. 
​A cinquain poem is a type of poem classified by the number of syllables each line in the poem has. It was created by an American poet, Adelaide Crapsey, in the early twentieth century.
The poem typically consists of five lines, using the following structure:
Line 1: 2 syllables.
Line 2: 4 syllables.
Line 3: 6 syllables.
Line 4: 8 syllables.
Line 5: 2 syllables.
We had  opportunities to scrutinise and find key features in a variety of cinquain poems.
We then wrote our very own cinquain poem about anything we wanted. We did poems on Halloween, friends, pets, Easter and even football.
Finally we had the chance to share our poems and read them out to everyone in the class in circle time.

History day! We love a dress up day!

Well what a fabulous day had by all! Our history day focused on people that inspired us.
We all did a tremendous job and dressed up as people that were an inspiration to us. We also brought in fact files, and photos of people who are special to us.
We spent the morning sharing our special photos and items of inspiration.
We also created a time capsule with all the things we had spoken about plus any extra information we wanted to share.
I hope you agree from the photos, that our time capsules are pretty special. We had so much fun sharing and  creating them. 
Our class have even got their time capsules displayed on the corridor!
We had Viking warriors, mums, dads, scientists, and even USA swimmers!
