This terms half-term science inquiry has been observation across time. Y4 organised their own investigations to see if their shadows changed over time. We decided to walk outside three times throughout the school day and measure our shadows in pairs using chalk. We then put this into a graph to see if we could see any trends. We discovered that our shadows were long in the morning, short at midday, and long again in the afternoon. We decided this was a result of the angle of the sun changing through the day.

Using the European Landmarks they created last term, SG have worked in groups to create their own circuits, lighting their landmarks up. They worked in groups to decide how many wires, bulbs and batteries they needed as well as where they would place them. Today we were lucky enough to be visited by Conrad Burdekin the poet. They all had a go at performing his poem Ice-Cream and then worked together to create a class poem all about compassion. They did a fantastic job!
Today SG learnt all about renewable and non-renewable energy sources. They discussed the impact these have on the planet then each had a go at creating H2 through electrolysis. Afterwards, they used straws to plan out how they would transport Hydrogen! In this session, Team SG discovered the meaning of perimeter and how to find this in different shapes. We collected leaves from Park Street’s playground, applying our learning to real life objects, and drew around the leaves using chalk. Team SG were introduced to the idea that perimeter is ‘the distance around the outside of a 2D shape’, and that measuring perimeter of a shape without straight sides (not a polygon) can be incredibly difficult. In Computing today we have been exploring desktop publishing. We have been:
●Changing font style, size, and colours for a party invite ●Editing text ●Changing text to communicate more clearly In history, we have considered what we want to learn about the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings. As a hook to learning, we learnt about how they wrote and have practiced writing in runes and compared their alphabet to ours. In Geography we have been finishing off our Europe topic. We have studied Wombwell and Athens. Within this study we looked at both cities in the past and discussed the changes that have occurred over the years. We used both Digmaps and Google Maps to do this.
Today was Odd Sock Day for Anti-Bullying Week. We spent the day talking about the importance of kindness and celebrating what makes us unique.
In SG, a special visitor came to discuss different types of bullying and ways to be kind to each other. Everyone wrote down an important act of kindness on their own star. In today’s history lesson, we dove into the exciting story behind Bonfire Night. After learning about why we celebrate and how, we got creative with a fireworks-inspired art project! Using chalk and acrylic paint, we made our own night skies bursting with colour. Our artwork captured the magic of Bonfire Night—bright, bold, and bursting with fun!
