Team LG got into a bit of a mess making slime. We learnt that when you mix cornflour with water, the large cornflour particles float around in the liquid. When you stir the mixture slowly it acts like a liquid because the suspended particles have time to move past each other. Yet when you put sudden pressure on the cornflour, particles temporarily stay packed up where they are (because they don’t have time to move) which makes the slime act like a solid.
Team LG thoroughly enjoyed a WW1 Boot Camp, learning how to march, avoiding the enemy in the nature reserve, building shelters, trying out basic first aid – THE WORKS! This was a great opportunity for the children to experience what it would have been like to train as a soldier during the war.
Team LG were provided with a range of objects that show visible vibrations: rice on a drum skin, elastic bands, ruler clamped to a desk. The children were given time to investigate how these objects made vibrations to create sounds.
